Frequently Asked Questions

What should I do if my heating system is not heating properly or will not turn on?

  • Make sure the Emergency Switch (usually located at the top of the stairs leading to the basement) is on.

  • Make sure your thermostat is set for a temperature that is above the current room temperature.

  • Check the fuses and circuit breakers that control your heating system.

  • Check the heating oil level in your tank.

  • Be sure the power switch to the furnace is on.

  • Press your system’s "Reset" button ONE TIME ONLY and call us. DO NOT press the reset button again.

What should I do if the readout on my digital thermostat display is blank?

  • Check for a blown fuse or tripped circuit breaker.

  • Check to see if the thermostat indicator is switched to the proper setting to activate the display. If this does not work, replace the existing batteries with fresh ones to see if the display functions properly.

  • Some digital thermostats have a “Reset” button on the pad. Press this to restore the original settings and - in some cases - the readout.

  • Many times when the thermostat display flashes a repeating message, the batteries need to be replaced. If you find yourself replacing the batteries more than the recommend number of times per year, a short could exist in the control panel.

What should I do if the burner control has moved to the reset position, shutting itself off?
The "Reset" button is located on the control on the burner, and is normally on the right side of this control. "Reset" buttons are usually red. If the burner control has moved to the reset position, press your system’s “Reset” button ONE TIME ONLY and call us. DO NOT press the reset button again.
